Network Mayo have announced the nominees in the Business Women of the Year Awards 2012. The awards are divided into three categories (self employed, new business and employee) and the winners will be announced on Friday June 22. The category winners will go forward to represent Network Mayo at the national Network Ireland Awards in the autumn.

Mayo Intercultural Action has secured further funding to continue its work supporting women to set up their own businesses. For the past two years, MIA has worked with women throughout Mayo providing support, training, mentoring and advice to women in the process of setting up their own enterprises. Following on the success of this, MIA has now been allocated EU funding to continue this invaluable work.

Connect Ireland, an initiative designed to tap the Irish diaspora abroad for investments and the creation of work opportunities back home, has already awarded a €45,000 payout to one Castlebar man for passing on a personal business contact. This contact, who was looking to expand outside his base abroad, has since committed to creating 30 new jobs in Carlow.

It is a collaborative effort of four local authorities, three county enterprise boards, the enterprise development agencies, and chambers of commerce in the Galway, Mayo, and Roscommon region.
